I’ve enjoyed working my way through the episodes of Channel Five’s documentary series “Inside The Balmoral“, in which staff members are followed as they go about their work in this historic Edinburgh hotel.

As enjoyable as I found the instalments of the TV show, I did feel prodded into action. What a glaring omission it would be if a review of this prestigious hotel failed to make an appearance on this site. I’ve had the privilege of eating at The Balmoral on several occasions in recent years and have never put pen to paper. Perhaps it is testament to the quality of the food, the luxury of the surroundings and the warmth of the welcome that even one report has not yet materialised. Quite frankly, on each occasion of visiting the hotel, my concentration has been firmly fixed on the dining experience and any distraction associated with note-taking has been avoided.
None the less, as we move further into 2022 a series of reviews will be appearing. Dining experiences at Brasserie Prince, Palm Court and the restaurant No 1 will be detailed along with a visit to the specialist whisky bar Scotch.
I may even need to make a return visit to the hotel to check some details……..
