You could be forgiven for passing by without noticing Ondine if you strode along George IV Bridge at a brisk pace. A cursory glance towards the glass fronted premises and you could even mistake the property for a solicitor’s office, an estate agency, an insurance broker. Look up, however, and you will see suspended above you the restaurant’s name plate and red lobster logo. Take a step closer to look at the ‘notices’ in the window and you’ll realise they are menus. The impression the property’s frontage conveys is understatement. Quality, but understated quality. And this, to my mind, sets the tone for what is to be found within. The design and decor, the service and, most of all, the food are of a good standard but come without fuss, fanfare or unnecessary embellishment.
I’ve eaten here on several occasions and a full review of this Edinburgh seafood restaurant is coming soon.
